Victory Gasworks- Gasifiers and Wood Gasification

Could this be the energy break through we have been looking for? Bloom Energy has apparently perfected the solid oxide fuel cell for use on both natural gas and biogas. This type of fuel cell is compatible with syngas as well.

With customers like Google and high profile backers their prospects are bright. Taking up the size of a parking space, the first generation of Bloom Boxes produce 100 kw continuously.

Efficiency is stated to reach above 50%. And whats it made with? Elements of beach sand. The buzz is that it's zirconia.

Now we will have to wait and see how the pricing plays out and the market acceptance. But this technology bodes very well for biomass.

Wood is apparently very low in sulfur content compared to coal, but according to wiki,
the solid oxide fuel cells are very sensitive to "sulfur poisoning". Sulfur is an essential
mineral for plant growth, some plants (and parts of plants) contain more than others.

To Remove sulfuric acid you can use a wet electrostatic precipitator.

Is the sulfer in wood gas? I thought that was a by product of biomass being in the earth for eons.

this is a step in the right direction--a turn key electric plant for the backyard, simple to use small package for the residential model and a $3000 dollar price tag--this you almost couldnt afford not to have

The bloom box sounds good to me too. For us to use our gasifiers to fuel it, we would need
to remove sulfur from our gas. Are there affordable sulfur scrubber designs for small scale
gasification?

Latest news, on an italian site covering the bloombox, rumors says that the home version of the bloombox will be at around 3.000 USD, that would be great news if confirmed!

Indeed,

This kind of "appliances" are the most interesting from my point of view, and if suitable for syngas, voilà, the perfect off grid powerplant, and a very promising technology for condo's (with natural gas)

Will keep an eye on this...

Bye
